On Saturday, Italy’s Biggest Fashion brand Gucci, appointed Sabato De Sarno as a new creative director with the task to revive the brand.

In 2005, Sabato began his career at Prada at 39. He worked with some renowned fashion brands such as Dolce & Gabbana. In 2009, Sabato worked in several positions at Valentino.
Before being appointed as a new creative director for Gucci, he worked closely with a famous Italian fashion designer, Pierpaolo Piccioli as a fashion director for both men’s and women’s clothing collections.
Piccioli is known for adding a burst to the Italian label’s extravagant breed of glamour. He has generated buzz for head-to-toe bright pink looks for famous American actress and singer, Zendaya.
In Gucci, Sabato was appointed to revive the brand. But in recent years, it has been losing momentum after stellar growth from 2015 to 2019.
He made a statement that he’s proud to join a brand with an extraordinary history and heritage that has been cherished with values over the years. Sabato said he is excited to contribute his creative vision for the Brand.
In September 2023, he will present his debut runway collection for Women’s Fashion Week.
Why Sabato De Sarno is appointed as a Creative Director at Gucci
The company’s CEO, Marco Bizarri, said Sabato De Sarno would definitely bring with him vast and relevant experience after working with several of Italy’s most renowned luxury fashion brands.
The reason behind appointing Sabato is the previous unknown creative director with years of experience, Alessandro Michele, who didn’t even have a public profile at the time of his joining.
However, Michele was known for his flamboyant, gender-fluid styles and was the favourite of some renowned singers such as Lady Gaga and Harry Styles. But he had to leave the company after tensions developed between him and Kering’s top management.
