On Wednesday night, during a live appearance on Twitter with Elon Musk, the Governor of Florida, Ron DeSantis, announced that he is running for the 2024 Republican Presidential election.
What is the Complete News?
Currently serving his second term as the Florida Governor, Ron DeSantis plans to run for the 2024 Republican Presidential election. And he announced this on Wednesday night during a live appearance on Twitter with the platform’s owner Elon Musk.
According to the sources, the announcement was made at 6 pm ET and hosted by a technology executive, David Sacks, who is a DeSantis supporter and a close friend of Elon Musk.
Earlier, it was not confirmed yet whether Elon and DeSantis would appear together in a live video or not. From Wednesday to Friday, DeSantis is also scheduled to meet with longtime top donors.
These meetings will help raise millions of dollars for his fledgling campaign, hoping there will be considerable financial momentum at the start.
A Politically Neutral Space
Once Elon Musk expressed his desire to keep Twitter a politically neutral space. But it doesn’t seems like that anymore, as the joint appearance by Musk and DeSantis for the announcement of the 2024 Presidential election run shows Musk is endorsing the governor.
However, it was not clear whether Musk was really planning to endorse the governor. In response to the joint appearance, Former President Donald Trump said he would eschew the platform in favor of his own social media tool, Truth Social.
The platform will be popular with a segment of the conservative movement.
Paperwork
According to the sources, DeSantis is expected to submit paperwork to run for the 2024 Republican Presidential election on Wednesday. Last week, DeSantis’s political operation was moved out to a new office in Tallahassee from the state GOP headquarters, costing him more than $5000.
It triggered a federal campaign law that required him to register as a candidate, and designate a committee within 15 days. DeSantis was asked when he had to announce the run in the next 15 days.
He added several other things are left on the agenda, including the state budget. Before the 2024 Presidential race, DeSantis visited across the country to promote his new book and tout his legislative record as governor.
According to the state’s latest legislative term, DeSantis signed several bills with conservatives, including permitless concealed firearm carry and a six-week abortion ban. He also highlighted bipartisan bills that would cut taxes for home goods, decrease prescription drug prices, and increase teacher pay.
