The sequel to the 2009 Avatar movie, Avatar: The Way of Water, has crossed $1 Billion globally in just 14 days. It became the fastest film to reach that milestone in 2022.
What is the Complete News?
In the first weekend after releasing on 16 December 2022, Avatar: The Way of Water brought $134 million in North America and $435 million globally.
According to the reports, currently, it has officially reached $712.7 million internationally and $317.1 million in North America, surpassing $1 billion at the global box office in just 14 days.
The exact number the movie crosses is $1.025 billion. It is faster than any other film in 2022, as Jurrasic World Dominion took over four months, and Top Gun Maverick took 31 days to reach the $1 billion mark.
The original 2009 Avatar took 17 days to make $1 billion and finished as the highest-grossing movie of all time at $2.97 billion.
However, in 2021, Spider-Man No Way Home was the fastest movie to reach the $1 billion mark in just 12 days.
Director of Avatar: The Way of Water, James Cameron, made a statement that the movie has to be the third or fourth highest-earning film of all time to make over $2 billion. It will likely happen as the original 2009 Avatar took 17 days to make $1 billion and finished as the highest-grossing movie of all time at $2.97 billion, he added.
First Reaction to Avatar: The Way of Water
Everyone gave a different reaction after watching the movie. Let’s make it simple. Below, we’ll show you what critics are saying about the film.
How is Avatar: The Way of Water Compared to its Original?
Avatar The Way of Water: lol imagine being dumb enough to bet against James Cameron. or teen alien Sigourney Weaver. or giant whales subtitled in papyrus.
light years better than the first & easily one of the best theatrical experiences in ages. streaming found dead in a ditch.

#Avatar2 // #AvatarTheWayOfWater is better than its predecessor in that there’s more going on with the story and characters and its ASTOUNDING technological advancements. Great escapism with enriching sentiments.

How is the Storyline?
As for the story, it's A LOT of movie & I'm eager for a 2nd viewing to revisit some details, but on 1st watch, it's a mighty effective exploration of community & family dynamics. Returning cast is great, but the newcomers are major standouts, particularly Britain Dalton as Lo'ak. pic.twitter.com/OtZXNr6zMw

AVATAR: THE WAY OF WATER introduces a new water culture on Pandora that is technically wondrous. James Cameron’s dialogue still struggles but his storytelling soars as he emotionally invests us in the new characters & creatures. A sincere, stunning epic that was worth the wait. pic.twitter.com/ZUqdJ4Nawd

What about the Character’s Performances?
Avatar: The Way of Water left me breathless. Visually stunning, emotionally overwhelming, with some of the most impressive sustained action scenes I’ve ever seen. The performances are incredible too, especially by all the kids. Wow. James Cameron truly doesn’t miss. #Avatar pic.twitter.com/GdwSnZYPYz

And credit to Sam Worthington for honing his acting skills over the past thirteen years… a world of difference here as his character struggles to protect his family and you buy it instead of yawning through it.

What about the Visual Effects used in the Movie?
So, #AvatarTheWayOfWater is one of the most visually stunning films I have seen. Incredible on an almost obscene level. Crucially, it also manages an engaging story with new & returning characters. Yes, it is long at 3+ hours, but James Cameron's only gone and bloody delivered… pic.twitter.com/oBjoWwiGaF

It’s so impressive on a technical level, it’s like almost offensive? Like I think this should be legally considered as bullying? Because James Cameron basically went ahead and told every other blockbuster to “git gud.” pic.twitter.com/INZb3fd6tl

How is the Action?
So, #AvatarTheWayOfWater: Liked it, didn't love it. The good news is that 3D is good again (yay!), and the action is pretty incredible (especially in the final act). But many of the storylines feel like they have to stop and start, and the high frame rate was hit & miss for me. pic.twitter.com/eY4G76R1AJ

James Cameron now has not two but THREE of the best sequels ever made. AVATAR: THE WAY OF WATER is incredible. The effects and action is, yes, breathtaking. But it is the story this time that’s the beating heart. It’s more personal, complicated, emotional. Wow, it really soars. pic.twitter.com/P5aA7dqG0U

Should We Expect the Third Sequel of it?
It's complicated and A LOT (see again: 3+ hours), with the pace sagging a bit around the 2-hour mark. However, I think you'd be hard-pushed to not be just a little impressed by it all… I don't know if the world needs Avatar 3, 4 & 5, but I'm glad we got #Avatar 2
— Tori Brazier (@dinotaur) December 7, 2022
I was, uh, not exactly champing at the bit for an Avatar 2 (even if “James Cameron + wet” tends to work out pretty well). now I can’t *wait* to see Avatar 3. that’s basically all I wanted out of this and it delivered in a big way.
